Throwback Thursday AND Mojo Monday 362 #MOJO362

For the past few weeks I've been sorting through my retired stamps and deciding which to keep, and which to sell.  It's a hard decision, I tell you, because if I bought something in the past, it's because I loved it and had some projects in mind to use it for.

One of the stamp sets I came across is Polka Dot Posies from 2006.  Sadly, this stamp set never got the love and attention it deserved, so I decided to use it one last time for this week's Mojo Monday sketch.

My first attempt came out a little busier than I liked.

Okay.  A LOT busier:

But I played with it some more and made a second card.

Head on over to the Mojo Monday blog and check out what other people did with this sketch this week, or add a card of your own!

Supplies used:
Stamp set:  Polka Dot Posies (retired)
Ink:  Hello Honey, Night of Navy
Paper:  Hello Honey, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Accessories:  Naturals trim ribbon (retired), 1/2",1", and 1 1/4" Circle Punches, Dimensionals

New Stamp Set - You're Wonderful

Stampin' Up! released a new photopolymer stamp set today called You're Wonderful, and it's gorgeous!

There are 18 stamps in this set, and because it's photopolymer, it's completely clear, allowing for easy placement and layering.

My August 2014 Paper Pumpkin is here! Is yours?

Yesterday I was so excited to come home after a long sweaty day of errands to find my August 2014 Paper Pumpkin waiting for me in my mailbox!

I'd planned on passing out on my bed in my air conditioned house to take a nap, but instead, I grabbed a cool drink and sat down with my kit to play!

One of the best things about a Paper Pumpkin kit is that it's ready to go when you are.  No planning, no measuring, no need to pull out a bunch of supplies or search for ideas.  It's all planned for you.

 This month's kit includes:
  • Seriously Amazing Photopolymer Stamp Set
  • A Hello Honey Classic Ink Spot
  • 4 large striped card bases
  • 4 large envelopes (2 yellow, 2 pink)
  • 8 large white card fronts with greeting cutout
  • 4 small striped card bases (my favorite!)
  • 4 small envelopes (2 yellow stars and 2 pink dots)
  • 8 small white card fronts with shape cutouts
  • 1 sheet of punch out banners
  • 1 sheet of large die-cut circles
  • 1 sheet of small die-cut circles
  • Small bag of pink sequins
  • Small bag of silver mini brads
  • 3 yards of linen thread
  • 1 sheet of Stampin' Dimensionals
  • 1 sheet of Glue Dots
And of course, there's an instruction booklet that shows how to put the cards and envelopes together.

You can also watch the YouTube video below to see a quick overview of this month's kit:

Doesn't it look fun?

I was able to make a few of the cards in just a matter of minutes.

Wanting to see what else I could do with this kit, I made one of my small cards a little differently than the examples shown.

The smaller cards are the perfect size to tuck in a lunchbox or pocket.  I already wrote on my cards and put them in my sons' backpacks for them to find at school Monday morning, because who couldn't use a little pick up then?  (Am I right?)

When I was finished playing, I was able to easily tuck the extra pieces back in the box and put it away so I could set the table for dinner.  Easy peasy.

A simple trick for straight sticker placement

Last week during the Stampin' Up! Convention in Salt Lake City I learned a fantastic trick for lining up and placing stickers on projects.

Use window sheets!

Here I borrowed the top sheet from the stamp set that came in my July 2014 Paper Pumpkin kit.  I laid the window sheet down on my grid paper and used the lines to space my stickers and make sure they were straight.  When I placed the stickers on the window sheet, I made sure that the top halves of the stickers were hanging off the edge of my window sheet, but not sticking to the grid paper below.

Then, I picked up my window sheet and held it over my card to decide where to place the stickers.

Once I figured out where I wanted them, I pressed down on the top half of the stickers, transferring them from the window sheet to my card,  carefully removing the bottom half of the stickers from the window sheet before moving it away, then pressed the bottom half of the stickers down onto my card.

Look at that!  Perfectly lined up, straight stickers!

So simple and clever, right?  How have I never heard of this before?

Did you already know about this trick?

Endless Birthday Wishes

If you loved the snowflake set from last year called Endless Wishes, I have a sneaky suspicion you'll ADORE this new photopolymer set called Endless Birthday Wishes.  How adorable is this?!

I just love the handwritten script!  Don't you?  Seriously, why can't I have handwriting like this?  My sugar and flour canisters would be so much cuter!

The item number for Endless Birthday Wishes is 137553, and it's available to order in my online store now!

Chalkboard Canister Labels

Chalkboard Canister Labels using the Big Shot, sitstaystamp.com #stampinup

I have a friend who's super crafty.  She has 5 kids and still manages to build furniture, shop with coupons, take her children to music lessons, and teach cub scouts on top of everything else she does.

Every time I see this e-card, I think of her:

Because she's so crafty, she's organizing her pantry with special custom can holders she built herself, (yeah, I know!) and she's the one who told me you can buy chalkboard Contact paper.

Now, I bought these glass jars for my flour and sugar a long time ago and they've sat naked on my counter for a long time.  I don't have an e-cutter, so I realized if I wanted to label the jars I'd probably have to order some cute custom vinyl off etsy or come up with something else.  But I figured, I know what's inside of them, do they really need to be labeled?  And if anyone else wanted to use them, wouldn't they know the difference between sugar and flour?  And if they didn't, why are they in my kitchen baking for me anyhow?

But, after seeing my friend's cute labels using contact paper and punches, I figured I'd give it a shot myself.

This is the Contact paper.  I searched for it at my local craft and big box stores before giving up and just ordering it from Amazon:

It comes in an 18" x 6' roll and sells for $8.20 right now.

Because I only used a few inches, this 6 foot roll should last me forever - or, at least until the whole chalkboard trend ends, right?

Actually, if I've jumped on board with a trend that means it's pretty much already over. . .

For my labels I used the largest and second largest of the Labels Collection Framelit Dies and ran them through my Big Shot with the Contact paper.

That's it.

Then peeled off the backing and put them on my canisters.

So easy, right? And Stampin' Up! has so many different framelit collections right now, I'm thinking about using them to label all kinds of things around my house right now.

Here's the link for the Chalkboard Contact paper.

And, if you need help purchasing the Labels Collection Framelit Dies or any other Big Shot items, I can help you with that.

You can find all the different framelits HERE in my online store.

The New Catalog Premiere!

On Monday I was able to attend a broadcast of the new Stampin' Up! catalog premiere along with hundreds of other demos in my area.  Demonstrators went to movie theaters in dozens of  different cities and got to watch Shelli Gardner and other presenters share and demonstrate products from the new catalog!

And, after all the fun (and prizes!) we left with our very own copy of the new catalog!

Isn't she lovely?

Now, some demonstrators plopped down outside the theater and thumbed through their catalogs while chatting about the new products and great examples.

Not me!  I jumped in my car, snapped a few selfies, and headed home ASAP so I could relish the glory of the new catalog in the comfort of my own home.

And, not to leave out our Spanish speaking customers, here's the Spanish version catalog:

It's breathtaking, isn't it?  Can you even begin to imagine the magic inside?

Would you like a copy of either of these catalogs?

You would?

I knew it!

Well, it's easy to get your hands on one.  If you've placed an order with me in the last year, congratulations1  You already have one coming.  Hooray!

If you haven't, you can still get one by contacting me today!
